As heading suggest this post is going to give some sort of comparison of two most popular social networks Twitter and Facebook. In late 90s and early 2000 we have seen the way Google went rocket high by providing a better search engine and brining out the perfect model for monetization via search engines. Both Twitter and facebook have introduced the new dimension of social interaction via web. but still we can suggest it as the beginning of social networking through web and it will go a long way in upcoming years.
Facebook to Twitter
Facebook has the largest number of the user by any social networking site. Currently facebook has more than 500 million active users by facebook statistics. Most of the people, who join twitter are already using the facebook and when they landed on the twitter interface they take little time to absorb the things like following, followers instead of friends, @ mentions etc. After getting familiar with twitter norms they usually try to use it like facebook and tweet like updating the status at facebook but sooner or later they realize that it is different.
Understanding the Difference Between Two
Mostly on facebook, we have the people in friends lists which we know in real life and have interacted with them at any level in college, office etc. At facebook, we share our inner world with each other, share the interesting things find on the web etc.We never feel alone as there are many connections available over there who can comment about your status, to appreciate your uploaded picture. But twitter is altogether different from this. Twitter is all about conversation. If you do not know how to conversant then you might feel alone at twitter and will try to quit at first stage. Conversation do not require that you must have some social ties to talk about anything. That’s why you have friends like 200 or 300 on facebook whereas it is possible to have 30000 or more followers on twitter. When anything happen, which can trigger the conversation, the tweeters at twitter start sending the huge number of tweets to be the part of the conversation. Twitter reported that 456 tweets per seconds where recorded when famous pop singer Michal Jackson died in 2009. To summaries the whole story in a single line I would like to refer to alphonseha
facebook is people you met in your life- who you don’t really want to talk to
twitter is people you don’t know – who you want to talk to
Facebook Has Much More to Offer
Facebook has plenty of things to offer to users. Its users can make separate pages, create the group, create the photo albums, instant messaging and play games. Facebook users usually know almost all the persons in the friend list which allows more deep connection whereas twitter only offer the conversation and in addition you can share the pictures , videos and any Web link in tweet. But some people take it as twitter is simple and more engaging. Furthermore, contrary to facebook, if you have thousands of followers than you cannot have the deep connection with each of your follower on twitter.
Facebook Like Vs. Twitter Retweet
Both twitter and facebook have the capability of making things viral. Facebook Like, suggest to your friends that you should also check this out. As each friend has it’s own friend list so any LIKE at facebook can trigger the fission reaction. Twitter has the same capability with the Retweet option. Any tweet retweeted gives a tweet an option to be in front of more followers on twitter. But there is also a difference between the two. The facebook like do not carry the credit for parent source while retweet do carry such credit.
