I recently configure my Unlocked BlackBerry (BB) Pearl 8100 to Use Internet Without the Data Plan. As it was the success so i decided it to share with the people so they can also use the internet or GPRS on their unlocked BlackBerry Phones.After unlocking, the data charges for using the internet will be charged according to the charges by your service provider.
If you have already gone through some of the websites for using internet on unlocked BlackBerry Phone you might have seen that mostly people are telling you to have the opera mini on the phone and provide the APN of your mobile service provider and you can access the internet on your unlocked BlackBerry Handset.If the trick works for you but still the problem is that you cannot access the other services & web-based functions like BlackBerry Messenger, facebook etc on your phone. In order to have the full access to the BlackBerry web-based functions you should have the Service Book on your phone for this.
What is the Service Book
Service Book can be find in the BlackBerry handset in the Options>Advanced Options>Service Book. Contrary to other phones BlackBerry phones require service book to connect with server and to perform web-based functions like push email etc.In order to have the Internet, you have to install the service book on your unlocked BB handset.For this, Step by step procedure is explained under ;
Steps/Guide to Use Internet on Unlocked BlackBerry Hand Sets
Before moving forward in the tutorial you should have the followings to perform the functions given in the tutorial;
1. Your Unlocked BlackBerry handset.
2. USB or Data Cable to connect the BB with your Desktop Computer.
3. Latest version of the BlackBerry Desktop Software Installed on your PC. if you donot have you can download it from here.
4. After completing these requirements you have to first of all Enable the Legacy Service Book (SB) Restore mode. To do so Go to Options>Advanced Options>ServiceBook in your BB handset.
hold Alt and pres S B E B or Press S S B E B if you have 1/2 Qwerty model.
You will get the message Legacy SB Restore Enabled.This option will allow you to restore/backup your BlackBerry Service Book through your PC.
5. Now Connect your BlackBerry handset with your PC via USB Cable.
6. Go to Desktop Software and Then Click on Device> Backup ,a window will open.
7. Select Custom ( Selected data only) in the Back Type. Scroll Down and Select Service Book and make the Backup as you might need it later on.
8. Download the Service Book File Browser via TCP all Networks from here.
9. The key feature of BlackBerry phones is Push Mail in order to use the Push Mail service download the Push Mail Service Book from the ShangMail. First Select your Cell Phone Model and Then Select Cell Phone Brand and Download the Service Book file. Save the both Service Book files in a folder. Its better to create folder at desktop with name Service Books and save there.
10. Now again go to BlackBerry Desktop Software and go to Device > Restore a window will open.
11. Check the option Select Device Data and Setting under Select Data to Restore. Give the path of the folder where you have saved the service books in step 9.Scroll Down and Select Service Books you have Downloaded in the steps 8 and 9 above.
12.Restore the files from the folder Services Book in step 9 by selecting them one by one.
13.After loading the Service Book files you have to provide APN for your service provider. you can find the APN for your service provider here. If you unable to find the APN for your service provider then search it on Google hopefully you can find it. To search you can write APN (your service provider name ).
14. Now Go to Options>Advanced Options>Browser and Press the trackball and select Save and press again to Save, you don't actually have to Save anything just have to follow the step.
15. Now restart the Unlocked BlackBerry Phone by taking out the battery and putting it again.
After Restart you can find the icon of Browser in other icons of your BlackBerry phone which was not there earlier, just go to there and start using the internet on your unlocked BlackBerry without Data Plan.
