Have only Reader Subscription on your Blog ? Do add Email Subscription form or link also to your blog . Most of the bloggers are familiar with the importance of displaying Feed Icons like " Subscribe in reader"  on their blog which gives an opportunity to reader to subscribe to the feeds of the blog on the feed aggregator of the choice of the reader. Growing popularity of feed reading through feed aggregator pushes the blogger to display feed count on the blog to show the visitor that how many people have subscribed to the blog feeds. its become like an authority indicator like twitter followers, Page Rank etc.I don't know the exact ratio of how many reader like to read through Email or Feed aggregators but there are many who still like to read through Email Subscription.

What is Email Subscription ?

Email Subscription is subscribing to the feeds of blog or website via email rather than  feed reader or in simpler words its allows reader to receive email if the feeds get updated. so if your blog gets updated or you publish a new post the email subscriber will get the post via email.  

What's the benefit of Email Subscription Over the Reader Subscription ?

The Major benefit of email subscription over the reader subscription is that you can get the email addresses of your subscribers which you can later on use for the promotion of the blog like newsletter etc.Its important to keep the contact data of the people connected to your blog . You should not be just happy for the only reason that people are coming and reading and subscribing to your blog. If you have longer programme for your blog you should start piling the contact data of your readers through different ways, so you can have the connection in the future. Darren Rowse of Problogger recently describe the importance of it in his post 5C's of blogging  he wrote  ;

Really it’s about capturing people’s email addresses, a place where you can continue to have that connection with them..............This is so important. How To Add Email Subscription Form or Link into your Blog (Blogger, Wordpress etc ) through Google FeedBurner

if you are burning the feeds with Google feed burner ( if you are not then i recommend you to do it) then you can get the code for the email subscription form or link from feedburner to paste in your blog or website.Just follow these steps

1. Log in to your feedburner account and go to Publicize>Email Subscriptions. You will have four sub heads

• Subscription Management
• Communication Preferences
• Email Branding
• Delivery Options

Subscription Management

you can get the code for email subscription form or link from the subscription management to place in your blog . Just Select the Language and copy the code or get the widget for Blogger or Typepad blog . You can have either the form or link on your site, i recommend you to go for the form.

At bottom of this page you can find Subscriber Management . Which gives you the details of the total email subscribers for your blog and much wanted their email addresses. which you can use for a permanent connection with your reader.

Communication Preferences

Here you can provide the Email form address, you can have either same email address  which your are using for feedburner account or you can provide any other email address of your choice.you can also customize  the  Subject and Body of the confirmation email here. confirmation email is an email sent to subscriber to confirm its subscription when he subscribes to feeds by email . its contain a link for subscription confirmation .

Email Branding 

Here you can customize the appearance of an email which will be automatically sent  to the subscribed reader whenever there will be an update in your feed.

Delivery Options

In Delivery Options you can adjust the time zone and delivery window for sending updates (if any) to the subscribers. The Delivery windows gives you different options of time span  based on your selected time zone when updates will be sent to the subscriber. it means that any update will not be instantly send to the subscribed readers rather it will be send once daily in the time window selected by you. e.g you have selected between 1:00 - 3:00 am so it means the updates for you blog (if any ) will be send to subscribed reader between 1:00 to 3:00 am based on the time zone you have selected.

you can edit these settings before or after copying codes to the way you want to have the email which will be send to your email subscriber automatically by feedburner. After adding the email subscription form or link to your blog you can have the email data of the subscriber which you can download in Csv (list ) format which is easy to use and you can use this important email data base for further promotion of your blog and for strengthening your ties with your reader.
