Last time I written about the tool to check the broken-dead links in the website so that you can fix such links to ensure that there are no dead ends (404 Error Page) in your website. Haunt and fix the broken links on the regular basis to provide the readers and search crawlers a better experience while going through your website. Include the broken link checking activity in your SEO monitoring schedule.Like different broken link checker tools available on the web the Google Webmaster Tools also gives you detail of the broken links (404 Error Page) from website. But the detail given by webmaster tools are about your website links and not the external links. If you also want to check the external links then use the tool given above.
Find Broken Links Via Google Webmaster Tools
So 1st question is to find broken-dead links in Google Webmaster Tools.
1. Log in to Google Webmaster Tools account.
2.Go to Diagnostics > Crawl Errors .
3.Here you can find the detail of the broken or dead links (URLs) , if any, and on right side you can find the detail that which pages have these dead links.
4. Go to page links given under the heading Linked From. These are the pages where Google crawlers encountered the broken link. These pages can be from your website and can be from any other website. Locate the broken link address and either remove it or give the correct url
If any broken link is encountered from the external site then it is not in your control. Only you can request the owner of website to correct the broken link.
